the stars have gotten lost
in the great black tapestry of sky
they do not follow
their assigned routes

fall back to place

the grass is buried deep
beneath the prairie snow

the gorgeous light

beg the sun to melt the snow

the night’s depressions

blackened flesh
pailess death
