Snap. Tsssssh…

The can opened with a sound not unlike a firework’s launch. She even waited a moment in case she would get to see the final sparkling boom before she remembered what she was doing.

The coke was cold and the bubbles tickled her throat on the way down. It wasn’t the taste she wanted on her tongue. There was no brightness to it, no shimmer of radiant beauty. She wanted fireworks. Today, however, left her with only this cold, sweet mouthful.

Where was the truer beauty, anyway? In the sparks trickling down the sky or the bubbles trickling down her throat? They felt the same, didn’t they? And each left her with a longing for more that could as easily be forgotten as filled.

Aluminium crushes easily beneath indifferent fingers and soon the empty can clattered to the floor in a flurry of unsatisfactory clanks and thumps.

Where was her bang? There was supposed to be a heart-lifting explosion of sound and vision as things came to their close.

Isn’t that how it’s usually done?
