Title: Autumn Orange
Rating: PG-13
Disclaimer: Personal work.
Warnings: none
Summary: A monarch
Note: I saw a butterfly while waiting for the bus the other day…

When I had first seen it – a shock of orange skimming across the sidewalk – I had thought it was an autumn leaf caught by the wind. But then it fluttered up, flying in a line too straight to be wind-driven. When it flew up again I noticed wings, a butterfly. It was rather late in the season for monarchs, though.

It never stopped, never landed. Just floated away on the cool autumn breeze. And I was jealous that I wasn’t able to do the same.

The monarch was long gone when the bus pulled up. Though, as I boarded and took my seat, I kept looking out the window hoping to catch one more glimpse of orange.

Winter is always too long. And just around the corner.
